|Hiking Trail Conditions Report|
||Downes Brook Trail|
|Date of Hike:
||Sunday, June 28, 2020|
|Parking/Access Road Notes:
||Lot half full in the morning, last car to leave at 8pm |
||Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|Water Crossing Notes:
||Many crossings easy due to low levels |
|Trail Maintenance Notes:
||Chopped out 6 big blowdowns and another 6 smaller ones with my ax. This got most of the annoying ones out, from the where the water crossings end, up to the Kate Sleeper junction.
4-5 annoying ones still remain. They are between where the Sandwich Wilderness sign is up to the 2nd to last water crossing. These are ax worthy, but could be done with a hand saw. |
||Wore the headnet all day. No ticks. |
|Lost and Found:
||I decided it was time to swing an ax again. I hiked the Downes Brook trail up to the Kate Sleeper junction, evaluating the blowdowns as I climbed. Then, on the way back, I chopped out as many as I could.|
I may return to get the rest of them. Now that I've been up as far as Kate Sleeper, I'm curious what the rest of it's like up there, as the trail was getting really interesting.
