 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Zealand Road open to Sugarloaf trail head. Gated with no parking signs above the Sugarloaf trail head parking lot. We parked here and had a car spot at Lincoln Woods. We were the first car in the lot this morning; Much busier in the afternoon on the Zealand road parking. There is parking on the side of the road as well. |

Water is running high but manageable. We used our kayak neoprene booties to wade the crossing above the hut. Water was shin to knee high for this crossing. All other crossings were negotiated by rock hopping with no problem. |

A few step-over blow-downs. Some newer looking signs at trail junctions. With snow depth still high, there are branches to negotiate. |

Lots of water and snow for the dogs. |

Blackflies enjoyed the warmer weather and cool flowing water. They were happy to buzz around us and welcome the start to bug season. |

Epic hike today. The main water crossing above the hut required careful negotiation and wading in the water. We saw a trail runner who jumped it! Monorail did not start until about 3/4 of a mile after Zeacliff. Used microspikes today. Monorail was a mix of stable and unstable conditions. As long as you stayed on the high center of the monorail with microspikes, we avoided post-holing but as soon as you slid off the side it was game over. 1-3 feet of snow left. We carried snowshoes but did not find an opportunity to use them- would have been challenging considering how narrow the monorail is. No snow in the exposed alpine zone. Microspikes were off and on several times. Took off microspikes about half a mile down Mt. Bond and did not need them the rest of the day. Snow free from below Mt. Bond all the way back to Lincoln Woods Parking lot.
We encountered some backpackers who were out for several days (they camped at Guyout shelter last night). Also saw some day-hikers as well. |
