The Weeks Brook Trail has little traffic which make it a delight to hike. The trail is sketchy in sections with some minor blowdowns and not many blazes in sections. The trail is signed going through a clear cut and entering woods. Follow signage carefully as we made a wrong turn and hiked on a logging road for 1/2 m. before we realized we were not on the trail. Almost 4 miles to a swampy area where the trail makes a sharp left turn and heads up Kearsarge. We ducked into the woods just before the swamp and headed toward the summit. Woods were open initially but closed in with scrapy fir and blowdowns. Summit is a nice open peak. We found Ed Hawkins' Canister (first one I've seen in a long time) signed-in, had lunch with the bugs and returned to the trail the way we came to the summit. Take time to spend at Shingle Pond, a beautiful wilderness pond with beaver lodge at the far end
When we got back to our vehicles Doug had ice cold beer waiting for us. A good day in the woods. |
