| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Sawyer River Road gate is open. Parked across from the trail head. I was the first car at 8AM, 1 other car at 3PM. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Took off my boots to cross Carrrigain Brook. I couldn’t find a good spot to rock hop with the high water. Rock hopping was possible on other brooks. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Several large blow downs (5+) were across the trail and too big for me to move. All could be crossed by either going under, over or around. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
None today. |
|
| Bugs: |
Bugs were starting to irritate me, so I gave them the OFF. First time I needed it this spring. They are coming! |

| Comments: |
Trail is dry w/ little mud up to 3,000 ft. Then, the trail has running water in a few spots.
Above 3,500 ft, there is unstable monorail with lots of ice that is quickly crumbling. I finally broke down and put on the micro spikes which helped immensely, but it was like trying to walk on a balance beam. The snow was not wide enough for snowshoes. I postholed a bunch on the way down as the temperature went up and the snow softened. |
