Comments
Comments: Trails are nearly all dry with only a small amount of semi-solid mud on the Ridge Trail.

A small loop from Gunstock. No views to be had anywhere until I got to the Ridge Trail around noon. While on Belknap I dropped down to visit the plane crash site as I hadn't been there in a while. I used the next segment of the hike from Gunstock and beyond to scout a future adventure. When I got to Mt. Rowe I wasn't really in the mood to do the Ridge Trail road walk down to the lot and was just about make a direct descent through the woods when I noticed a new trail out of the corner of my eye: the BTTR (Better Than The Road) Trail / Ridge Trail bypass. The sign indicated it went down to the lot so I took it - and shortly thereafter I met the person who was responsible for it coming up. He described the trail we had a nice chat about trails and features in the area. Basically this new trail leaves just beyond the antenna and descends to the roller coaster near the bottom. The trail itself is well cut and very soft under foot - a very nice alternative to the road walk portion of the Ridge Trail. There is a small trail runner's loop off of this new trail also FWIW.
