Comments: Beautiful day for Mt Carrigain. The trail starts out dry and snowfree with typical muddy areas along the way. At approximately 2600 feet an icy monorail starts.. I brought snowshoes for support they stayed on the pack today chuckling. What got me up to the summit over this angled, narrow and eroding balance beam of ice and snow was micros, trekking poles and patience. I followed happily in the footsteps of others (postholes) sometimes with one foot on the monorail and one in the posthole-this kept me from making anymore than a few myself. The ridge up to the summit had much better conditions with a mix of snow and degrading monorail. It was nice chatting with one other hiker on my descent down. I encountered five other hikers as well.
