First two miles are steep, but manageable on the way up. Used light traction with no issues. After the shelter, the trail flattens out with loosely packed snow. No postholing, but snowshoes would be good for this stretch. Summit was beautiful, as usual, with a handful of people and pups enjoying the views.
Trail changed drastically on the way down. All snow and traction is gone as it appears most were butt sliding the entire way down. All that remains is really thick, slick ice. Microspikes are not sufficient, had to switch to crampons. Appeared a few people butt slid off trail which is a little sketchy as this section is very narrow with drop offs to the brook. |
