Comments
Comments: Fluffy snow on top of stable packed trail. Definitely grateful for my snowshoes to deal with the fluffy layer on top. It’s especially deep towards the ridge line. We saw some folks in microspikes, but the trail was maybe a little soft for that — we could see a few deep footprints where they had sunk in.

A nice, easy walk in the woods most of the way up Gale River, until the sudden, steep ascent to the ridge. Then a flat section followed by another steep bit leading up to the hut (closed). We sat on the porch for a few minutes, which was a much-needed rest! Steep but short climb from hut to the summit of Galehead. We retraced our steps on the way out. Pretty slippery and slide-y going down the steep parts, but all in all a great, challenging day out.
