1-3†of new snow on all trails, snowshoes were more effective than Microspikes today. No issues getting to Galehead or S Twin thanks to fisherman Chris ahead of me. North Twin had seen less traffic but was still an easy and consolidated track to follow. Heading to Garfield was tiring - 12â€+ of unbroken snow for 2.1 miles. I laid down a track but my stride was pretty long on the downhills so it might not be so helpful. There were two spots that I had to cut off trail a bit due to steep ice on the approach to Garfield Shelter. One near the start of the climb, and one near the waterfall that is always a bulge in the winter. Be careful in there! On the descent from Garfield I cut a couple switchbacks and did some fun tree skiing on my snowshoes. Lower Garfield Trail below 2,000’ is totally packed and Microspikes would have been fine. |
