| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The lot was very muddy. There was room for about four cars on the far right. I picked up a whole plastic bag full of beer can and plastic bottles that were strewn about. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Ice - Blue, Mud - Significant, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All were easy. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Lots of blow downs and broken off branches, especially in the hardwoods. I pulled some out of the way and trampled others. It will take a full day of trail maintanance to make these trails free and clear. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Marlie had a great day. There was no on in the lot when we started so I let her lead the way. I was able to convince her to climb the lookout tower although getting her down took a little more convincing. |
|
| Bugs: |
Saw a moth or butterfly along the lower section of the Ranger Tr. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
I found a key to a Toyota less than a mile from the parking lot along the Ranger Tr. E-mail me if it is yours. |

| Comments: |
Lambert Ridge Tr was snow free until just after the east outlook, then there was trace amounts. Lots of snow between Lambert Ridge and Smarts Mtn. I wished I had snowshoes for this part. The monorail was <6" wide and hard to see. The snow was still thigh deep in spots. Above Lambert Ridge/Ranger Tr jctn I put on microspikes. There was significant ice in the usual spots and on the steep sections before the tent platform. Still close to 2 feet of snow at the summit. Lots of trash in the cabin. Ranger Tr is like a small stream. Be sure to wear waterproof boots or have wet feet. The snow disappeared about a half mile below the old garage and the mud took over. |
