Comments
Comments: ski trails had about an inch of new wet snow on top on previously groomed trail. 1-2" of the same wet snow along the ridge over a packed track. some rail forming in sections. used the short bypass bushwack around d peak on my return trip. snow was pretty firm in the woods off the trail. the new snow made for a very quick descent especially on the ski trails. had no problems with ski area staff. all were very friendly and seemed to have no issue with hikers being on the ski trails.
wore snowshoes the whole hike. they were by far the best footwear choice with todays conditions. broke out my pack cover along the ridge as it was very wet with the new precipitation falling from the trees.
got a pretty late start hoping as forecast things might dry out a bit. it was still quite wet along the ridge as the trees were covered with slush, ice, water, etc. summits were socked in while i was up there, but things were clearing up nicely on the hike back down the ski trails. nice to meet some vftt folks along the ridge. the trip back down the ski slopes in the new snow was the type of snowshoe descent dreams are made of. great day to be out.
