| Comments: |
Well established footpath from start to finish, no real need to follow blazes at all. Nice weather and a hut that is open year round make this a popular trail. The trails are well broken out with freezing temps keeping the surface firm. Lonesome Lake is blazed in yellow. Fishin’ Jimmy and Kinsman Ridge trails are the AT and are blazed in white. Blazing is not prolific but plenty enough to stay on trail.
I elected to wear snowshoes the entire way (‘cause I love them and that’s how I roll). Everyone else wore traction, an acceptable alternative as the footbed was frozen and solid. Ice under the snow in steeper parts but easily dealt with in snowshoes/traction.
Three people, in snowshoes, broke out Kinsman Ridge between the Cannon summit, over the cannonballs, to the Fishin’ Jimmy jct. Thanks! That part of Kinsman Ridge is blazed in blue. Another person broke out Kinsman Pond Trail from Cascade Brook to the Fishin’ Jimmy jct (also blazed in blue). At least one person and her dog broke out Mount Kinsman trail. It looked pretty packed down. Hi-Cannon looked untraveled when we passed the lower jct at 7:30am. By 3:00pm it looked to have been travelled by many feet.
As popular as these trails are, and being a weekend, we only met 10 people on the trail. That was a nice surprise! |
