A big loop and thn some from State Park. Spellman for main climb (best on trail scrambles on the mountain) with link to Pompelly up to summit. Various trails down so Bald Rock and Monte Rosa could be visited. Stopped along way at both known and secret places like Pompelly Cave, Kiasticutus Rock, Dinsmore Tavern area, old graphite mine area, Wolfs Den caves and more. Used main trails, bushwacks and abandoned trails.
Monadnock is a true gem and also a joy to visit.
Note, ice is forming and while it can be stepped around or skipped over it is here to stay. Coming weekd the trails will be getting snowier and icier. Spikes are useful to cary, may not need necessarily but there are spots where they can help for short periods. |
