Beware of hornets on the fire tower. I didn't get stung, but there must be a nest up there somewhere. |

Some wandering on this local hill to avoid driving anywhere with traffic, which is insane this weekend.
I followed Tower Trail all the way to the summit, where recent logging has taken place. It definitely changes the landscape up there. I climbed the tower for the OK views, then descended back down the trail a bit. I turned onto one of the newer skid roads and did a short bushwhack to the recognized Concord high point, my second time there. I headed back to the trail then did a figure 8 sort of thing on the descent, swinging out to the Swope Slope Vista, then over to Potter Ridge and back to the trailhead.
Several folks out but not crowded by any means. Still good foliage color, but the leaves are dropping fast and the trails are already carpeted. |
