Arrived Friday at 7:30AM at Lafayette Place Campground parking lot for hikers off I-93S. Plenty of parking, less than 10 cars in the lot. When arriving back to the car on Saturday at 11AM, the lot was completely full. |

Climbing the ladder on Hi-Cannon might be tricky. The ledges also have steep drop offs. Keep animals leashed. No animals allowed inside the Cannon Cafe. |

No bugs at the start. Once getting into Kinsman Ridge Trail the mud and stagnant water became prevalent resulting in some minor amount of bugs. Nothing worth busting out the head net. Of course, there were more flies next to the four piles of used TP along this hike. Come on people, seriously? There was one pile right before the summit of Cannon. No excuse. There's a bathroom up there! |

Found an old fondue pot left inside the Kinsman Pond Shelter. Left it there. |

Lonesome Lake Trail from the campground was easy with numerous switchbacks. Toilets are available in the campground area on the way to the trailhead. Amazing hike up Hi-Cannon. Foliage was in full swing. Hi-Cannon provides some great views with numerous opportunities for views from several outlooks / ledges. Ladder crossing was easy, not sure what the hype is about it, but I can see it being difficult for some and definitely tricky for animals.
The wind at the Cannon observation area was intense, but the views are outstanding. Peak was not crowded much at all at 10:30AM. I did not see any hikers, only about 4 or so tourists from the ride up the Cannon tram. Quickly went down and visited the Cannon Cafe where restrooms are available -- only about 10 tourists in the Cafe. The Kinsman Ridge Trail had numerous areas of mud, some were not so easy to hurdle over, but please try not to walk around which causes further erosion. Ended up dropping gear at the Kinsman Pond Tentsite and grabbing N. and S. Kinsman. Great views near S. Kinsman as well. Did an overnight at Kinsman and nobody was there. Beware of the water, it's the pond which even when filtered will be a bit on the light brown side. There was a dead frog floating near the water as well.
The next day we returned down Fishin Jimmy at 9AM with some fog and cloudy skies. Lots of stairs on this trail. Cleared up a bit by reaching Lonesome Lake Hut where a person was playing acoustic guitar. She did a great cover of "In My Life" by The Beatles and I really enjoyed getting there at just the right time to listen to this. If you ever read this, thank you so much for making my morning so great! Filled water here. Went around the lake and wrapped it up down Lonesome lake trail. Someone scarred up a rock with a giant "ANDREWS ROCK" or some other name. Come on people...seriously? Parking lot was full on return to the lot. It might be notable that the campground has a sign saying that the water in the dish washing area (or, at least this is where I saw it) may be contaminated with E.Coli. Notice was dated 9/27ish I believe. |
