Comments
Comments: It's a long drive up from Boston. Thankfully the trail is pretty straight forward and not all that challenging compared to some others (I'm looking at you Madison). The first few miles are noted for their overgrowth and only minor elevation gain. Kilkenny Trail is decidedly more of an uphill slog (something we're all used to). The elevation breaks off at the Cabot Cabin which is fun to explore. The actual summit of Cabot is a little further up the trail. The sign for the summit and the "cairn" (aka the small pile of rocks) are about 50 yards apart. There was patches of thin ice on trails as it heads northwest towards the Bulge and the Horn. The final stretch from Unkown Pond back to the trailhead was a slow, uneventful and occasionally muddy. It also feels really long. My final observations about Cabot are that do NOT expect amazing views. There should have been some on the exposed boulders of the Horn, but the whole mountain was socked in with clouds. Thats about it in terms of views though. So ... another one crossed off the list. Carrigan (number 48) ... I'm coming for you.
