Had planned this weekend to be my Franconia Foliage hike, but got a winter lite hike instead. Tried getting to the summit early while it was still clear, but clouds rolled in on my way up. Very windy and cold on the ridge, wind chill in the teens with a light mist. Some ice at the upper end of both trails, but nothing crazy. Saw only three people on the ridge, and two people were at the summit of Lafayette when I got there; there was a steady stream coming up from the hut on my way down. Did get a bit of a view down the notch on some of the ledges on OBP, which were below the cloud cover. Despite the lack of views it was a great hike, and a good reminder that winter is coming. |
