I used the herd path so only crossed at the last water crossing of N Twin. The water level, while not exceptionally high, is higher than seen at other places this week. The crossing was fairly challenging but doable. There was no obvious path to take. If it gets higher, using compactor bags to cover your footwear or removing boots and using sandals would be recommended. |

As noted above, the river was higher than expected based on several hikes this week and it seemed as though there had been rain overnight. N Twin trail was wet at the start. I used the herd path to avoid the first 2 water crossings. While it is fairly easy to follow in daylight, there were 2 areas that required a little thought and may have been tough to follow in the dark. I was glad that I waited until 6:22 AM to start so only needed my headlight for about 20 min. There was rime ice on trees and breakable ice on the ground along the N Twin trail and N Twin Spur starting at about 4500'. It was a day of dry trails, wet trails, muddy trails, & rocky trials. None was difficult but some required patience and forethought. It was a spectacular day to be outside and there were lots of people on the trails. |
