"One of these days I have to stop and visit Boy Mountain on my way home."
I have uttered this statement just about every time through this area for more years than I care to admit. Maybe you have too. For me, that day finally came today...and 'boy' am I glad I stopped! A short but moderate climb leads to a summit area with fantastic views toward Washington and Jefferson westward. The peak foliage, blue skies and near-half moon at mid-afternoon were bonuses. There is even a bench at the summit to enjoy the vista in comfort.
A couple of updates from WMG30: 1) from the road, two arrows on the fence now point you up the grass before the driveway and 2) bear left at the first junction about .2 mile from the road. There are no arrows or other indications which way to go here. The about two dozen steps later you will see the referenced junction with an arrow pointing left. Once past this there are a handful of more arrows to help. The entire trail to the top is pretty obvious - the lower half is a woods road and the upper half is more of a foot path.
This is one of the nicest summit viewpoints on a small peak that I have been on in a long time - and I was very happy to have it all to myself. |
