Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The road to the parking area for Huntington Cascade has some potholes but no biggie. Keep an eye out for the signs. We were the first car there shortly before 11am. Room for at least a dozen plus. Saw three cars at the eastern (climbers) trail for Tablerock around 2:30pm. There’s room for a dozen plus at the western trailhead and there were some empty spots around 2:30pm but there were a few cars along the road so I imagine it usually overflows on nice weekend days like today. Also, we sat in 40+min of traffic in 16S on our way home because of backed up cars trying to get into the auto-road. This doesn’t seem appropriate or safe. I have never experienced traffic in that area before then again I’m not usually driving through it at 4pm.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The bridge at the beginning of Huntington Cascade has fallen apart some but if my worry-wart senior parents felt comfortable using it, then it’s probably pretty safe (watch out for a protruding nail though!!) One or two average rock hops after that.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Both Huntington Cascade Trail and Three Brothers Trail were well blazed in yellow. There was the occasional very old and faded blaze that was barely visible but mostly there were newer yellow rectangle tacked onto trees. These were helpful as the trail isn’t all that well travelled and the fallen leaves further obscured the footbed. Tablerock Trail didn’t seemed blazed but is well travelled and easy to follow (bear left at an unmarked fork if descending near the bottom). None in my group recalled any blowdowns.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The western part of the Tablerock Trail seemed like a good trail for dogs. Huntington Cascade and Three Brothers are a bit steeper but probably okay. Saw a couple; all but one leashed. The unleashed one was well behaved but it really bothered us that it walked around unleashed on Table Rock, a very narrow promontory rock that’s only a few feet wide. If you stepped beyond those few feet you would almost definitely fall to your death. If for some reason this dog got provoked and ran into someone causing them to loose their balance...that could end very, very badly.

Comments
Comments: Ascended via Huntington Cascade and Three Brothers Trail and descended via the western portion of Tablerock Trail. My first time in Dixville Notch. The last time my parents were here was for my fathers 48th birthday; now he’s turning 73! New redlines for all of us :)

Started off at 37F at the car. Huntington Cascade gets fairly steep after a brief flat portion to the bridge (great to do the trail just to here for people less mobile!). Three Brothers Trail only has a coupe sgeep parts and is generally much more gentle. The cascades were very nice, and although the trail was steep it had some soft footing and was blanketed in velvety green moss which was cool. Both of these trails were fairly dry with some spots of moderate mud. We all thought that the 0.1mi to Middle Brother Overlook was worth it :) The western portion of Tablerock Trail was less steep than I thought it would be and made for a nice and quick descent although it was much wetter.

Foliage was near peak (probably just past) this far north but still hasn’t reached it from Gorham south. Really beautiful road trip today as we went up 93 and down 16. Is never been so far north on either and both were very scenic particularly folllowojg the Androscoggin River along 16S. A great way to celebrate my father’s birthday!
