Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of parking in the morning. Still some open spots in late afternoon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings were just a trickle.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Thank you to whomever placed cairns and yellow paint blazes on the ledges of the Piper Trail once it emerges from the woods and ascends the summit. The trail is now much easier to follow. I saw a National Forest trail crew working on the lower section of the Champney Falls Trail, the section that has been bypassed. I inquired as to what they were doing. Turns out they hope to be able to reopen the original section of the trail in the future. Then, it won't be necessary to climb that hill which is the bypass route.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one. Can't imagine dogs would be happy with all the ledges.
Bugs
Bugs: Not a one.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There was a black day pack close to the summit, just laying on the ground on the trail. It was empty except for two partially full water bottles. No ID apparent. I left it there since I thought the owner might be in the area someplace.

Comments
Comments: The trail is in near perfect condition. Almost no mud or slippery rocks. Well marked and clear of all blowdown. This is the first time I have ever been on the summit of Chocorua and did not see another hiker anywhere for almost an hour.
