Comments
Comments: Trails are mostly dry with occasional minor mud. Although I didn't check the leaves box there are a fair amount of them down - especially on sections NCT and Imp Trail.

I hadn't been on the Carter ridge in quite a while so it was time for a revisit. If there are two features I like in a hike they are birch glades and the sights and sounds of running water - and both are prominent on the south end of this loop. I had forgotten how many viewpoints were on the north side of the ridge - views to the Presidentials were clear and vivid while views into the Wild River Wilderness showed a good amount of foliage. It didn't seem very busy here: other than the ridge I only saw two others today - both ascending NCT while I was descending.

Within two minutes of starting my hike on 19MBT I smelled smoke. A couple of large tents were set up on the opposite side of the brook with a good-sized fire going - well within FPA. I then encountered another breaking camp adjacent to the trail - also within FPA. I guess some think the rules don't apply to them :(
