Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No issues
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All in good shape, although Caps Trail is sometimes hard to follow near the top. The Link between Castle Trail and Caps Ridge trail was a bit overgrown on the Caps side but easily passable.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A lady tried to bring her large experienced dog up Caps Trail but had to turn back at the scrambling sections. Not recommended unless you want to carry your pooch.
Bugs
Bugs: Quite a few insects but none bothered me.

Comments
Comments: Incredible, warm, sunny, calm day to finish off my NH 4000 footers! I did a loop up Caps trail, over the Cornice to Montecito Lawn and then over the Jefferson summit and down to the Castles and across The Link to the bottom of Caps trail. It took 8 hours including lots of breaks and slow ambling on the alpine rocks. The Castles' side of The Link is very rugged going with some tricky ledges and root masses. Otherwise very nice hiking and generally easy to follow the trails on this day. However, the trails above tree line are not always well-marked so I would not attempt them in white out conditions.
