Walked up Kelly Road to gated FR 64B. Took the forest road which is insanely overgrown this time of year. Following the gaia map of the NHmountainhiking guys, but went a little further up in the woods along the road. Had to bushwhack through some really thick pricker bushes, raspberries and blackberries to get back on our heading! Woods fairly overgrown as well until we got a lot higher. Tough going with wet leaves and our hiking pants soaking up all the moisture! Finally reached the summit and the jar in just under 2 miles. Decided to take a heading more directly towards South Pond and the end of Kelly Road. Pretty steep in places but woods were a lot clearer. Hit what turned out to be FR 460 which was pretty nice, then took a left fork onto 220B which lead us down to the curve at the end of Kelly Road. Took the road back to our car. Residents waved and said hello so must not mind the occasional hiker. |
