Just one on Dicey's Mill with a tree across it. Not too difficult. |

I had planned to take my springer spaniel because, after all, how bad can the ledges be? Good thing I didn't. I think they would have been beyond her capabilities, but even if not, there is no water for her to cool off in or even drink till almost the end of the hike. The 2 liters she usually carries would not have been sufficient and she doesn't do well in the heat. I wouldn't recommend bringing a dog on this hike. |

OMG! There were these bugs that would hover in front of our faces, 8-10 at a time, daring us to proceed! They looked like bees and we were afraid of them but would put our heads down and run past and hope they didn't sting us. Then they would fly ahead of us and repeat this bizarre behavior! This kept happening and we never got stung so we stopped being afraid. When we got home, my friend looked them up and found that they are not bees at all even though they look like them, but are called hoverflies. They are not harmful to us. They also seemed to enjoy playing with each other. Other than that, just a few mosquitoes and gnats. OK, maybe more than a few! |

The views from the ledges are spectacular! There are several lookouts in different directions so you can see lots of other peaks. The summit is supposedly north of the ledges on the Rollins trail but we were not sure just where it is. We couldn't find any kind of marker, sign, cairn etc, and it seemed to us that the ledges were higher than the actual summit. However, we did pass over it since we did the loop from Blueberry Ledge down Rollins to Dicey's Mill, but we would be hard pressed to tell you where the summit is. |
