Comments
Comments: After researching previous posts, we tried to find the same starting point: 30 mph, sharp bend sign (there were three), cement pilings from an old bridge (seem to finally have disappeared), so we decided to make our own way, hoping to hit the woods road mentioned in these reports at some point. We slid down the short, steep bank of the river and made our crossing with a combination of a rock hop and shallow wade. Our first challenge was to scale the cliff band not far in from our crossing. Once at the top, we were in clear woods which gradually sloped towards the peaks. We set a heading and within about 15 minutes managed to cross onto the woods road! It was a nice road/pathway, not too overgrown for the most part and an easy to moderate climb. It must be used occasionally as there was a definite pathway visible especially in the more overgrown sections. We got to a point where the pathway took a right turn towards the mine and we continued on the road until the vegetation became really thick. We headed into the woods and started our climb towards the peak. This section was moderate then steepened slightly more as we got closer to the top. We crossed one bump then a second which seemed to be the highpoint, a small cairn and a higher bump showing 2137'. However, there was no jar so we decide to go a little further. We descended slightly then climbed a third bump which was recognized with a jar and register. After signing in, we decided to head down right away, hoping to hit the 4WD road mentioned in prior reports. It worked! We followed that road, passing the old mine and soon joining the road we had come up on. We followed it all the way down to the river, hoping to see where it came out. The closer we got to the bottom, the more overgrown it became until it was more of a trail than a road. We came out at the base of a clear cut which appeared to head straight up. If you are standing on the road, you will see a tree with a large wooden panel nailed to it. Cross here and head toward the clearcut, taking a right soon after you reach it.
