Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: As others have reported, 4 blow-downs immediately onto Stony Brook. Two are after the second footbridge and forcing walk-arounds and significant off-trail erosion. Any local people with a chainsaw? They aren't far in. I pruned the Stony Brook trail a bit after the beginning for probably 2/3 of the way. I kicked out 22 waterbars on a straight stretch after the the largest water crossing (there are still a couple more to do). These are log waterbars and many are rotted in the middle. Then the AT from Imp to Middle Carter, I was shocked at the lack of pruning, in many areas, the overhangs are almost touching. I pruned a bit, but there is a tremendous amount to do. I assumed the AT got first priority. I ran into the Imp caretaker, Ryan, who was doing a food run and told him of the pruning (he was appreciative)and blowdowns (it sounded like it was his responsibility to clear them, but not sure).
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None - thankfully
Bugs
Bugs: Still black flies buzzing around when you hike, amazingly late in the season.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: No, stolen! A missing cell phone I deduced was stolen as I was talking to a thru hiker at Imp Shelter. Very disappointing as I engaged in a very friendly conversation with him as he stopped for water. Thankfully, I got my provider to disengage it, without any issues.

Comments
Comments: No. 36 and 37. Most covered in the notes above, but this was an overnight at Imp shelter tackling Middle Carter the first day (around 9 miles) and Moriah the next (7 miles). Only one other guy at the shelter and a few on the tent platforms. Saw tons of thru hikers heading South. Middle is a beast after doing the climb form Stony Brook and the trail maintenance and a few round trips from Imp looking for my phone. Stony Brook is a nice gentle old logging road, so an easy climb up and down.
