Water Crossing Notes: One, easy steps across
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Glen Boulder to the boulder is fine. Above the boulder when you enter the spruce it becomes very closed in. Needs a brushing back badly. Lots of rock underfoot but you have to be looking for branches in the face. Hard to look in two places at once. Davis Path is in excellent shape! One or two big blowdowns with herd paths around. Many blowdowns had been cleared and the brushing back was fantastic. Some mud (some really deep!!) from the Rocky Branch intersection until your start gaining elevation to Isolation. There were some rocks and logs to help navigate the mud but the path is getting widened as folks try to get around it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Pretty dry hike for dogs using this route and lots of rocks.
Bugs
Bugs: The hike in they were fine. When the breeze blew they were fine but when the breeze died down the black flies, and gnats above 3000 ft would hit. Mosquitos in parking lot upon return.

Comments
Comments: MWO forecast used the word "rare" in describing the quality of the day and they were right. Perfect conditions! More elevation using this route but the views going in and coming out made this a better option rather than slogging out Rocky Branch. On the GB tr. above the spruce we spotted a bear high up on Gulf of Slides (about 5000 ft). Not sure what he was finding to eat but must be worth the effort. Still lots of alpine flowers blooming above 4000 feet. All in all one of those days that make for a perfect hike, especially with my favorite hiking partner!
