Comments
Comments: Had never done this hike before, it is fantastic - steep and rugged. There is quite a bit of unavoidable mud between Cannon and Kinsman Pond; some can be rock-hopped, but not all, so prepare to get muddy. This hike has you in the open for a surprising amount of time for a non-alpine area, so lots of sunscreen is recommended. Not much traffic on Kinsman Ridge - saw 2 people between the summit of Cannon and Kinsman Pond. The Kinsman's were busy, and Lonesome Lake was busy. Had planned on hiking out Lonesome Lake and Pemi back to my car, but after getting some extra water at the hut, I had time and ambition so I took Lonesome Lake up to Kinsman Ridge and back over Cannon. Lonesome Lake was a nice trail, much less steep than most of the other trails I was on, and easy to follow. Saw a bunch of people coming down the steeps on Cannon this time, all headed for the hut. Lingered on the overlook ledge on Cannon for a bit before finally heading out to the car. Left the car at 7, returned at 5:30 - truly awesome day.
