Comments
Comments: Champney Falls Trail is well-packed, but a bit soft on the top inch or so with the warm temps and Hillsounds were just right. A bit lumpy from so long seeing just boots/traction but not snowshoes, all fine except if jogging, then chance of twisting ankles. And, you WILL posthole if you step off-trail by even a little bit. At least 2-3 feet of snow pack still. Piper Trail to summit is fine; exposed area mostly scoured, so boney snow and ice mix. We kept the traction on despite all the bare granite. Middle Sister trail from about .2 mile from Champney Falls junction going East toward the Sisters hasn’t been broken in a long while. Old packed path hard to find and quite softened, especially east of the West peak. We both went in to our waists and had to dig out several times between West peak and Middle (no snowshoes with us), so we called it a day and turned around. Bring snowshoes if you want to visit the sisters!
