Comments
Comments: Well I have never summited these peaks from the Kancamagus side and holy crap is the Mt Osceola Trail steep. From about the junction, the trail starts climbing and in about a miles goes up around 2000 ft. I was told after the fact that at one point the trail has a grade of 25.1% and goes up 527' in 0.3 miles. My calves were on fire. I was the only one who stayed in spikes all day. The other three used snowshoes and reported the televators really helped out (due to some hip issues caused by the snowshoes I elected to push through the burn). The one plus to all this was the amazing (controlled) butt sliding we got to do on the way down. At some points you could just go full speed as the trail was worked enough to have a built up slide track, including around the corners.

The chimney is untouched and has a nice ice flow on it. The normal bypass and another bypass are both available for your choosing. Descending the normal bypass was a little sketchy.

It was a beautiful day on the summit of Mt. Osceola. We hung out in the warm sunshine for probably close to hour and did not see a single other person up there.

There was little issue getting off trail by the official start of Spring so it was nice to close out the winter season on a high note.
