Lot is an ice sheet but pretty flat so no problem. Bit of a bump coming into the lot from 116- you are going to want to take it nice and slow, especially in a low clearance vehicle. |

| Comments: |
Clear skies and calm winds this afternoon/evening on the Kinsmans. First half mile is super icy and spikes are a must. After that it is choice of spikes or snowshoes. I wore shoes up for the televators and spikes down. Just be wary if you are spiking for the million deep postholes. They are easily avoided but abundant the entirety of this hike. They are a non-issue for the moment if you wear snowshoes. Deep snowpack on the ridge makes for lots of extra views-we caught a really nice sunset on South, added layers(hiked in tshirt until 7pm it was rather balmy) and then night hiked down with headlamps under a full moon. Couldn't have asked for a nicer day and nicer trail conditions in mid-march. Dan had the sullen demeanor of a sad, broken puppy today but he suffered like a true champion and is now reveling in a real sense of achievement and new-found appreciation for the Kinsman Range. |
