Thanks to all the folks who packed down the trails over the past week; all the trails are well broken out & light traction was sufficient. I debated about whether or not to carry snowshoes & they ended up coming along for the ride. I saw no one until I was halfway up Isolation Spur. They also wore spikes. The Rocky Branch trail is a packed highway but there are lots of snowshoe-size postholes from earlier warm weather days at lower elevation. The bushwhack is pretty easy to follow as it too, is well packed out. There are a few false leads along the way but most won't matter as they generally merge, with one exception: shortly after turning onto the BW, you'll come to a fork, Bear Right. There's a few branches over the false tract, which makes it easier to avoid. As others have reported, there's lots of snow so the trail is high and there are a ton of spruce branches that you need to push through. It felt like I was running through a gauntlet on the Davis Path! Nevertheless, these were the best/easiest trail conditions I've ever encountered on getting to Isolation. |
