Comments
Comments: Long, but easy, bw due to excellent surface conditions and wide open hardwoods or softwoods. Very minimal scratchy stuff.
From the parking area we walked down snomoed FR 95 to the summer trailhead, and then followed the snomoed Shelburne Trail a short distance to a logging yard. In the left corner of the logging yard we took an old logging road to Conner Brook. Upon crossing the brook we noticed the faint snowshoe tracks that were probably Bryan's and Zachary's from 2/22. We followed the tracks, when visible, to approx 1900' on the ridge that lies NE from Howe East Peak. Here we tuned SW, and to avoid climbing all the ridge bumps we zigzagged through the mini-cols of the numerous bumps that comprise this ridge - sometimes on the N side of the bumps, sometimes on the S side - often encountering faint snowshoe tracks. Recognized high point easily found.
We had previously attempted this bw on 2/10 but had turned back after about 1 hour of difficult breaking - we then drove on to Pond Hill where fortunately the conditions proved to be dramatically better.
