| Comments: |
The big spruce tree holding Sign at junction of Hurricane Gap and South Ridge Trails is completely down. The next good snowfall will bury the sign and make ithard to tell you are at junction. Addition to this there are two spruces bent over by some previous sleet event obscures trail heading toward the summit. This could confuse travelers taking the side trip over to South Peak.
Sunday was a great day to be above tree line. Extensive bare rock ledges usually encountered were coated with frozen wet snow providing super great grip for my MSR Lightning ascents never needed to take shoes off to protect the points. Trail between Firescrew and Cardigan was drifted over making it hard to stay on trail. Snow was not very deep so bushwhacking was not hard. I got a good workout and tested out my winter gear very well. My new boots are working out very well. |
