| Comments: |
Start of trail is firm from previous hikers. Light traction is good. Stream crossings took some searching for the best place to cross. Able to cross on icy rocks between running water and thin ice. Stream banks are eroded tremendously in places with steep banks to climb out of. Trail in good shape to the cascades from previous use.
Changed to snowshoes at steeps, just beyond lower crossing of cascade. There is a breakable surface crust over unpacked snow powder over another breakable crust to bare ground. It went well along the switchbacks above the cascades. The crust surface became more breakable on the level area toward the pond. Being the trail is now a washed out trench did not help either. Slow going with unrelenting snowshoe post holing through the surface crust, added to a lack of interest to go further.
There is a descent track now to where we turned back. Conditions may change after next weather event.
Good day in the woods with Gary T. |
