Comments
Comments: Greeley Ponds Trail had good snowshoe track with a solid surface. There was a well defined snowshoe path on the Mt Osceola Trail from the Greeley Ponds Trail all the way to Mt Osceola. Beyond the section running below the cliffs there was a very steep stretch most of the way up to East Osceola. Many hikers had glissaded down these steep slopes as it was somewhat difficult to remain erect on the downhill trek. The bypass around the chimney was the primary route between East Osceola and Osceola. Care had to be taken on the chimney bypass as there was exposed rock that did not provide good footing for the snowshoes. Many hikers used crampons. I was able to ascend and descend uneventfully in Flex Alp snowshoes. One man tumbled about ten feet when descending the chimney bypass and broke his snowshoe and injured his arm. I would recommend agressive traction of either crampons or snowshoes with good traction in order to provide safe passage. There were lots of hikers on the trail today. There was a good snowshoe path to the northwest outlook near the summit of Mt Osceola. Some decent views were afforded from this vantage point as well as on the ridges.
