Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Abbie had a great hike, but she was disappointed that the moose poop she found was not fresh. Usually this is a popular hike for dogs; leashing dogs is strongly recommended, lest any Red Sox dogs meet any Yankee dogs on the trail.

Comments
Comments: The colder weather of the past few days has hardened the snow, but the previous rain and warm temperatures means there is a lot of ice on this route, especially on the upper portion. Going up, the first big turn to the left of the switchback section near the top is extremely icy. Microspikes were the right choice -- barebooting this trail in these conditions would be crazy. But with traction, this is a great hike right now. The snowmobile trail up Stinson is too rocky and choppy right now for snow machines, so hikes are peaceful and quiet. Abbie-dog and I had the trail and the summit to ourselves going up, and we met just four people and two dogs on the way down. A wonderful start to our Christmas Eve.
