| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Several cars were in the trailhead lot, but getting to it was slightly dicey. If you don't have 4WD, the lot at the bottom of Starr King Road, next to the Irving, is recommended. |

The trail was in fantastic shape, well packed down with almost no hazards, and no ice. We had some light traction (Nanospikes and Yaktrax), as well as heavier-duty Microspikes, and all worked well. Nearly everyone else we saw had Microspikes - definitely a good recommendation, but with these conditions, it could probably have been easily enough even with nothing at all.
We saw a gray jay at the peak of Waumbek, and a pair of gray jays at the peak of Starr King. They weren't aggressive, so I can only assume that BubblesTheHiker did something to irritate them on the 5th ;) (https://newenglandtrailconditions.com/nh/viewreport.php?entryid=38653) |
