Comments
Comments: “Mixed conditions” would be the best way to describe the hike. Bare-booted it on my way up the Old Halfway House Trail, though there was a good amount of packed, frozen snow and occasional ice. Switched to spikes just after the Old Halfway House site. Lots of ice on the lower half of the White Arrow Trail. Saw one couple hiking without spikes, but I wouldn’t want to do so. Mostly packed, frozen snow and bare rock above tree line, with the occasional and avoidable post hole. Actually had the cold and windy summit to myself for about a minute. Could have benefited from having poles in a few places on the descent, but managed things well enough. I wore spikes all the way back though to the car, though I would have been fine without them after OHH site.
