Epic adventure on this cold day! Microspikes on Nineteen Mile Brook Trail, the switched to snowshoes on Carter Dome Trail trail and kept them on until we returned back to Nineteen Mile Brook Trail. Carter Dome Trail to Zeta Pass was packed out but a little soft. Big drifts to break through going up Carter Dome. Up to South Carter there was a pleasant snowshoe path. South Carter to Middle Carter was a different story. It was a tree war zone - all the spruce and balsam trees leaned over with tons of snow and ice (and they were NOT MOVING). Got to summit of Middle Carter (never seen it like this before with trees leaning over to the max), and decided to return via Zeta Pass. |
