Six Husbands was still clear of snow as we climbed, though parts of it were wet and slippery. Snow started in earnest on the summit cone of Jefferson, with ~30 mph gusts throwing it in our faces and visibility around 50 feet. Lost the trail a couple of times and meandered in the fragile alpine vegetation until we found the next cairn, especially just at the top of 6H. There's about an inch of cover on top of Jefferson. About 1000 ft down from the summit, it thinned out to wet rock again. No ice encountered, we had traction but it wouldn't have helped. |
