Comments
Comments: I've been wanting to go to Mt. Bemis for a long time, and even made an attempt once, but today was the day, so we decided to add in Nancy for fun. For having been abandoned so long, the Mt. Bemis Trail was fairly reasonable to follow, with some thick sections and blowdowns thrown in, though the tread is evident for the most part, even in the very brushy sections. Even found a couple of telephone poles, complete with wire, and ceramic and glass insulators! Fantastic views from the meadow at ~3100, and from a side path just below the tower. The tower remains themselves are impressive, sad that they're mostly on the ground rotting. Summit and canister (glass jar and accompanying canteen) ~300' west through fairly thick woods. Headed west and south toward the col in tight, scrappy woods, avoiding steeper terrain to the south, before working our way down to the head of the un-named tributary of Nancy Brook, and visited the beautiful un-named pond in the col. Took a generally southwesterly line direct to the summit of Nancy, avoiding some cliffs to the southeast, steep and mossy, but generally better woods than coming down from Bemis, though a bit thick in spots. Popped out on the herd path about 50' from the summit vista. Steep going down the herd path, and a smooth exit on Nancy Pond. Clouds had thickened and lowered by the time we got to Nancy, but there were still nice colors to be seen, especially out deep in the eastern Pemi. Nancy Cascade running well. Great day to be out with Rachel.
