Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Numerous on Wildcat River and Bog Brook, all rock hoppable and some with log bridges.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Wildcat River was a well trodden, well-maintained trail. Only one old step over blowdown that did not even register as such on the way up! All three trails had muddy areas: Wildcat River had abundant bog boards; Wild River had one extensive area of marsh grass and muck where the trail was not clear. (Just keep going straight.) Bog boards on Wild River and Bog Brook are old, aging, breaking or broken, and many are rotting.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: They can handle it but would get very muddy. Of course, there were lots of stream crossings to wash off, too!
Bugs
Bugs: Nothing to remark about.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lost a black visor on the Bog Brook or lower Wildcat River Trail.

Comments
Comments: Doing some redlining today. Started up FR 233 to avoid some of the stream crossings on lower Bog Brook trail. In about 1.2 miles, we turned left onto the Wildcat River trail. We were both impressed! This trail was clean all the way to the hut. The elevation gain was spread pretty evenly throughout so a nice, moderate way to get there. Only the last 1/2 mile could be considered steep and even then was not too difficult. A quick break at the hut, amazing views of Carter Dome and Wildcat A. Back down the trail to the junction with the Wild River trail section we needed to complete. This trail has some really nice, dry, clean path and then has some marshy areas and mud pits. Reached Bog Brook trail junction after 1.1 miles where we stopped for lunch. Headed back down (literally) Bog Brook which also went from dry and clear to muddy, over and over. Crossed FR 233 and continued to the junction with Wildcat River trail. This junction is not signed, other than for the Bog Brook trail but the bright yellow blazes to the right were the same as we experienced all the way up the Wildcat River trail, so we knew we were on the right track. In about 1/2 mile, we reached FR 233, completing our loop and headed down the forest road to our car. Phew!!
