| Water Crossing Notes: |
Pine Bend crossings were fine. Downes Brook were doable near the top but you are walking through the river at the bottom. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Pine Bend had no issues. Kate Sleeper is blowdown city, nearly impassible in many spots. Downes Brook has zero blazes, only way to tell you were in vicinity of trail up top was where blowdowns had been cut in the past. |

| Comments: |
The ascent up Pine Bend Brook was good. Definitely needed traction once you got to about 3800' as the trail was hard packed ice. Kate Sleeper was fine until you get up to about West Sleeper then it just turned into a maze of blowdowns. Kate Sleeper also had a lot of deep post hole snow in many spots with no obvious monorail track to follow. Downes Brook was an interesting descent. Snow shoes would have been worth it as you basically post holed for what seemed like forever. Again, zero visible blazes on this trail until we were within about 3/4 miles of the parking lot. Water crossings were doable near the top but river was too high at the bottom for any good rocks to hop over, so ended up having to walk through the water. Definitely a hike to remember. |
