| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I took out a couple of blowdowns on Wildcat Ridge and some branches on both trails. There is quite a number of running small drainages and a few stretches of running water in the trail which are a bit of a nuisance to snowshoers and a real pain if one is trying to keep the dog's feet from getting wet and icing up. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
The mighty tough little dog earned his moniker today. Wildcat Ridge up to A hadn't been broken out and it was slow going with deep unconsolidated snow and some drifts on the steep slope. He had so many ice balls hanging from him that from behind he looked like a walking Christmas tree, and the ice balls jingled out Jingle Bells (with a good imagination). He is one tough guy. |

| Comments: |
I had planned on hiking Polecat to D and then maybe over to A, but on asking where to park I was referred to a guy in an office and he essentially said that while it is USFS land they leased it and they didn't want anyone on the their trails without a ski pass. I checked with AMC after my hike and the guy said he's heard of 4 people being kicked off the trails, but others have made it up to D without getting caught including a mother-daughter team today. I used snowshoes on Wildcat Ridge where the snow was deep and unconsolidated and slippery on the steeps and then kept them on until low at which point the crampons were hitting rocks. I passed 3 people on the way in and they were using spikes or crampons on 19 Mile. One was going to Carter Dome. Met one guy going in near the parking area. |
