We broke trail most of the way to the summit, then someone overtook us and went ahead. He was bigger than us so he sank further into the snow on the part we'd already broken out, did our best to smooth it out. After the sag, when you start really climbing, there are lots of spots where the rocks are just barely under the surface which made for some ankle-rolling and other foot/ankle tortures. Some spots the snow was so loose and there was nothing underneath for the snowshoes to grab, so there was some slipping backwards. Up on the ledges there was some bare rock and some ice-covered rock but plenty of snowy places to get around them. Saw lots of tracks - deer, rabbit, moose, and bobcat. |
