Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked at the plowed junction of Lower Doetown Road and Cross Road, the usual winter parking for this hike. LDR was not plowed when I walked in but WAS plowed when I walked out, quite unusual for this road. I talked with a local resident who told me that the house at the end of LDR changed hands and the new owner is periodically plowing the road at their own expense. However, the trailhead parking area is NOT plowed, so for winter, you still need to park at the junction and walk the 0.3 mi.

Comments
Comments: Tough to pick the right traction today. I started out in snowshoes but changed to spikes above the snowmobile bridge junction, which I wore to the summit. Inconsistent snow cover, about 4-5 inches on average. Not really enough for snowshoes, but a bit too much for spikes where ice was lurking under the snow, and slippery for bare boots. The entire route is still pretty bony. We either need more snow or less snow. I stayed in spikes part of the way down the snowmobile trail, which I thought would offer better footing than the hiking trail (wrong), then went back to snowshoes the rest of the way until reaching the road. The road walk out was very slick, with a layer of ice under the plowed snow.

Cold at the summit, but not much wind. Winds picked up on the descent. Only saw two other hikers at the summit and one person skiing in shorts down low. :D
