Comments
Comments: everything was wet today. lost pond trail had lots of running water and a couple sunken bog bridges. lots of running water on wildcat ridge trail with snow/crust/ice coverage starting after the first couple sets of ledges. this increased and the upper ledges were coated and tricky. it was pretty wet and crusty today, but with a freeze there may be lots of ice. some deeper wet snow across the ridge (up to a few inches) along with lots of running water and slush. same holds for descent to notch. there is a lot of debris and some blowdown particularly between the upper ledges and c peak. lots of ice on the trees so more may be coming down. nineteen mile had some slop up high, but was mostly just wet after the initial descent. microspikes (or other moderately aggressive light traction) were really essential for the ascent, traverse, and descent of wildcat ridge particularly on the ledgy sections.
nice to see and hike with earl and sue again. it had been a long time. we were treated to some really amazing ice formations on the trees up top. lots of popping and crashing off in the woods whenever a good wind gust came through. a cold, very wet, but still nice day in the woods.
