| Comments: |
We were an AMC group of ten. Snowshoes mandatory for this loop. The Blueberry Ledge Trail is decently packed and snowshoes handled the ledges. We carried light traction and crampons but didn't need them. The Rollins Trail was soft and unconsolidated along its length with postholing in snowshoes after dropping down off the ridge. Snowshoes still needed to finish packing it down. Deep snow pack on the ridge. The usual care is needed along the edge of the ravine. The DMT is still not completely consolidated and snowshoes needed to help pack it down as well. One couple in snowshoes passed us as we approached the summit of Whiteface and another hiker in snowshoes caught up to us at the junction of RT and DMT with one exuberant dog. All in all, a great end-of-winter hike, great weather and excellent company. Thanks to Brian T and Al D for leading this hike. 46/48>70 |
